The story of AI is also the story of us

A feature documentary in development, following human stories from around the world navigating the rise of artificial intelligence – the breakthroughs and the losses, the wonder and the fear, the ways it's reshaping lives no one fully anticipated. This is not an AI film. It's a film about us. We're seeking partners, funders, and collaborators to help bring it to screen.

Kate Hammond

Kate Hammond is an award-winning producer and the founder of Softcut Films, a Brooklyn-based production company that brings urgent, mission-driven stories to life. Drawn to big, messy human stories, Kate co-produced Maddman: The Steve Madden Story (Netflix), about the rise, fall, and comeback of the maverick fashion mogul, and worked on Sweet Micky for President (Showtime), which follows a pop star’s wild run for Haiti’s highest office.

This past year, Kate has directed and produced short films for the International Association for Safe and Ethical AI (IASEAI), the Center for Human-Compatible AI (CHAI), and AI Safety Connect at India’s AI Impact Summit, engaging closely with leaders across the AI safety and governance landscape. As a mum of two young daughters, she approaches this work with a deeply personal stake, thinking often about the world her children are growing up in. After immersing herself in this community, she has found it hard to look away.
